Rock Band 2 - Keep on Rocking with Wii DLC

This could and should attract some hard core gamers to the system. MTV Games, publisher of the Rock Band series have confirmed that Rock Band 2 will feature downloadable songs for the Wii.

How? You ask!

The Wii is pretty much storage-less at the moment, so could this mean the appearance of an external hard drive peripheral from Nintendo, or will SD cards be enough to handle the content.

The title is set to hit the shelves mid-November so more information is expected soon.

    Google to buy Valve?

    Could it possibly be true?

We’ll see in the next 24 hours. The rumour that is currently setting the internet alight is that Google are about to step into the games publishing arena with the purchase of Valve and their glorious Steam system.

Valve marketing boss Doug Lombardi said in an interview August that the studio would be ‘happy to discuss an acquisition’ with potential buyers.

    Who better than Google?

We remain a little dubious here at WiiNation but we’ll see.

    It’s a mad world.

It truly is a mad, mad world. The Wii console certainly has never seen anything like this. Nintendos’ family oriented user base will be well and truly split over the arrival of Platinum Games’ Frank Miller styled roaming beat-em-up.

Madworld is slated for a 2009 release and we’ll be keeping a watch on this title. From the content on show in the Leipzig trailer there is some serious bloody spillage, all in the name of fun of course.

This is a brave more from Sega to sign up this title for the Wii. Platinum Games chose to launch exclusively on the Wii system due to it’s accessible pick up and play feel. Nothing to do with generating publicity of course.

Wii certainly needs more titles in this action genre, but with maybe a tad less blood and gore.

Still, the style looks bloody good.

Pirates vs. Ninjas - let battle commence…

Pirates vs. Ninjas™ Dodgeball is being developed by Gamecock for the Wii.

The game pits scurvy Pirates against deadly Ninja assassins in a bid to settle the world’s oldest debate; who’d win - Pirates or Ninjas?

An Xbox live release is already out there and the Wii version is expected towards the end of 2008.

Yours is the familiar task of lobbing squashy balls at unguarded legs in order to eliminate players from the opposing team. However, special moves like Shuriken Attacks and Peg-Leg Stomps can be used to gain the upper hand.

Content in the Wii version appears to be unaltered, and visually it stands up well against the Live version.

Just remember to keep your Wii Remote strapped on tight!

    Family Trainer to debut soon

Atari have turned the heat up on Wii Fit and are trying to cash in on the Fitness market.
The game is actually a sequel to Nintendo’s NES family trainer series, so this is really, nothing new.
Family Trainer features a plug-in mat, as opposed to Wii Fits wireless balance board, and is more akin to a dance mat than anything else.
The interaction between mat and game is all to do with timing of your steps and the challenges are more like rhythm-action games than a serious exercise program.
It’s obviously aimed at being more fun than serious, there are multiplayer modes and a large collection of mini-games to play including boarding, canoeing, skating and others.
This is due for a UK release later this year, so keep your eyes peeled.

Wii dominance prompts XBox360 price cuts

In a largely desperate and predictable move, Micorsoft Corp., the wolrd’s largest software maker has cut the price of its XBox 360 console to compete with Nintendo Co. - the market leader.

XBox 360 Arcade has had $80 slashed off its price, making it $50 cheaper than the top selling Wii. Other versions of the console have had $50 price cuts.

XBox sales in the United States have lagged behind the Wii and PS3 in June and July 2008.

Nintendo won’t feel immediate pressure to cut the price of the Wii, it hasn’t changed since the console was introduced in 2006.

In July, U.S. stores sold 555,000 Wii consoles. PlayStation 3 was second at 224,000 and Xbox 360 was third with 204,800, according to NPD.

    Wii Fit - Wii Fix

Research carried out by women-only insurers Sheila’s Wheels has shown that nearly a fifth of women interviewed admitted having accidents in their living rooms after getting carried away playing Wii Fit.

Broken furniture, vases, banged heads, pulled muscles are but a few of the incidents reported, some incidents even had pets involved.

I can testify to the dangers of the Wii after cracking my pooches head during a vigourous bout of Wii bowling.

It was meant to get the nation back in shape in the comfort of our own homes - but women working out on the Nintendo Wii Fit video game have helped cause around £20 million of damage to their own living rooms.

Still - they’re saving on gym membership.

    WiiWare release: Helix

A music rhythm game where you move your arms to the music! Groove to 26 different songs with 3 difficulties!

Helix is a WiiWare release which you can download from the WiiWare channel at a cost of 500 points. It’s innovative, exciting, and damn hard work for couch potatoes like me.

I recommend playing the game with 2 Wii Remotes for the best experience. You can perform dozens of moves, including punches, circles, back fists, hooks and more. The visuals are basic as it’s the music and the interaction that is the main focus of the game. The game contains 26 songs and 3 difficulty levels with unlockable songs as you play.

This game is great for exercise plus having fun. It’s easy for anyone to pick up and play but difficult for even the best players to master.

Wii Firmware 3.3 (Death to the Homebrew Channel?)

The latest Firmware Update by Nintendo has very few changes for Wii owners, but there are 1 or 2 serious effects.

You will have the ability to move your Mii creations from your regular 100-max storage to the Mii parade. You will lose some key features if you do this, such as the name of its Creator and birthday details.

Behind the scenes, the update kills the Wii Freeloader, the Datel disc used to play imported Wii games.
    Freeloader users beware!

The infamous Twilight Hack, a save game glitch available only in Zelda: Twilight Princess that allows the Wii Homebrew Channel to be installed, has also been blocked. Anyone who has already installed the Homebrew Channel will be unaffected but the primary method of installing the channel is now gone.
It won’t be long before this is reversed!
