EA Sports has confirmed its EA Canada studio (Vancouver) is currently hard at work on a brand new tennis franchise for the Wii.
EA Sports is promising “innovative ways to play” as or against the best players the tennis world has to offer.
“As we look to expand the EA Sports brand and captivate sports fans from around the world with rich new interactive experiences, it was obvious that the renaissance we’re seeing in the sport of tennis provides us with a big opportunity.”
“Our new tennis franchise, coming first to the Wii, will put fans right into the action and provide the excitement, tension and drama that true champions feel in legendary matches - like the classic from Wimbledon just last month.” commented Peter Moore, president of EA Sports.
The first Wii title is set to be released in 2009 and will be the first EA Sports title to use the recently unveiled Wii MotionPlus accessory.
Great news for all you Wimbledon buffs, as EA Sports has also snapped up the exclusive rights to All England Lawn Tennis Club, home of the Wimbledon Championships.
Other console releases will follow after the game debuts on the Wii.
